Motivation to wood work
It all began with an idea. I was sitting at home one day watching YouTube and came across woodworking videos of someone making wooden American flags. Damn that is so cool I thought, I should make one. over the next week or so I kept watching more and more woodworking videos and always went back to the people making flags. I made the decision, I was going to get some tools and give this adventure a try. after a trip to Harbor Freight Tools for tools ( I started with cheaper stuff in case I sucked at it)and a trip to Lowes for some wood, I was off to the races. My first attempt was a disaster, I messed up in every possible way. I got in a hurry, got lazy ( I realized later on) and did not do my research before hand. I got the flag glued up, painted and then thought, how the hell am I going to add the stars? Back to YouTube I went, watched and took notes. ok cool, I know what to do. go back to Home depot for a Dremel tool and bit, I will just hand carve the stars in this bad boy! HAHAHAHA, yeah right that did not work well at all. That flag was trash ( but made for a good bonfire) I still was determined to make a flag.
I had more wood so it was time for try #2. this time, before I did anything I watched a ton of videos, searched the internet for tips and tricks and took notes. Well this time, I turned out a flag that was OK. Not Great, but OK and I was happy. I think buy this point I was hooked on woodworking. it was very relaxing to me despite the frustrations of messing things up to get out and create something with my own hands (sounds cheesy I know) that I could show off and be proud of. fast forward to 3 years later. I have upgraded nearly all my tools to name brand (not that there is anything Wrong with the Harbor Freight stuff, its fine for what it is but I decided to treat myself to better stuff). I have incorporated Epoxy resin pouring, Laser CNC etching, and CNC carving into my shop offerings. Speaking of my shop,it is technically my garage but its is where I create my work. I love, love, love testing myself to create new things. Often I am inspired by others creations and stuff I see in stores. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to create similar items with my own spin on them.
Recently, I started my website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media sites for my brand and I have been hitting the craft fair circuit in Georgia; having a blast I might add. I have a YouTube site as well but I must confess, I do not know how the you-tubers do it. the few videos I have up are sub par at best and I get frustrated with trying to figure out editing videos on a very small budget. If any one has any good editing tools that you use please let me know. I would love to one day be one of the you-tubers that a guy sitting on his couch runs across and can inspire him to give woodworking a try.
